About
.raw films

.raw films is an independent film company built to explore what rarely gets touched and what often goes untold.

Rooted in storytelling, observation and a pursuit of raw truth, .raw films creates narrative, documentary, performance and original cinematic work that goes beyond entertainment.

Every story is an opportunity to uncover something deeper, whether uncomfortable, beautiful, familiar or unseen.

We don't just want to tell stories. We want to leave something behind.

Trevor Noir

Trevor Noir is an independent filmmaker and storyteller whose path to filmmaking began with songwriting.

For years, music was his primary creative language. But eventually, three to five minutes of a song could no longer contain everything happening in his mind. The characters, conversations, environments, emotions, possibilities and entire worlds he imagined needed a larger canvas. Film became that canvas.

His approach to filmmaking begins with observation. He moves through the world looking beyond what people present on the surface and toward what may exist underneath it. The stories that draw him in are often the ones that remain untouched, uncomfortable, overlooked or rarely discussed.

That philosophy became the foundation of .raw films.

To Trevor, RAW means uncomfortable, pure, untouched and original. It represents the space before something has been processed, softened or shaped for easy consumption. His responsibility as a filmmaker is simple: to touch what is rarely touched or not touched at all.

His films are not created simply to entertain. Entertainment is the vehicle that carries the audience through the story. The purpose is what remains afterward: a message, a realization, a question, a confirmation or a truth the audience may not have encountered before.

That philosophy extends beyond subject matter. Casting, performance, dialogue, color, framing, environments, props and every element of the frame should serve the story and exist for a reason.

His work is also deeply connected to Black storytelling and representation. He wants to contribute to a cinematic world where Black people can exist fully at the center of their own stories, where their humanity, beauty, complexity and heroism require no outside validation.

He does not believe the work is ever finished. There will always be more to learn, more to create and more stories living inside him than time will allow him to tell.

Ultimately, his idea of legacy is simple: to one day walk through the real world and recognize pieces of the worlds he created on screen.

The story is always
bigger than the frame.
